Sharon Ellery - Development Manager

I grew up in the area and attended local schools. Previously I worked for Children’s Services in various roles including setting up a parent and child group on a local Gypsy and Traveller site, which I enjoyed immensely. I also worked for MIND and Rethink mental health charities and feel passionate about breaking down stigma and discrimination.

I joined the Families Matter team in 2004. I live in the Waterside area and have three children of my own so understand the challenges of being a parent. I am committed to supporting families and empowering people to reach their full potential.

I have a BSc (Hons) in Health & Social Care from Southampton University. I maintain my professional development, having completed other courses including:

  • OCN - Counselling Skills
  • CLAIT
  • Training to work with parents advising about issues concerning sex and relationships
  • Training to facilitate parenting Training to facilitate anger management groups
  • Emotional First Aid
  • Teaching adults
  • Mental Health Awareness Training
  • Solution Focused Brief Therapy
  • Drugs awareness training
  • Behaviour change training
  • Child protection training

 

My main responsibilities include:

  • Supervision of staff
  • Networking with partners
  • Mental Health work
  • Parenting groups/ support
  • Monitoring & Evaluating
  • Setting the vision for the ongoing work of the project in consultation with the Trustees
  • Fundraising
