Back To School Support

E-mail Print

Local school teaching support staff from around the area spent two days going back to school. The training organised by: Families Matter; The Handy Trust; CATCH Extended Services and Youth & Families Matter working in partnership proved a great success.

The purpose of the training was to equip staff to work as Home-Link Workers, to liaise effectively with parents and utilise support available in the community.  The Ultimate goal is to work cohesively to aid children's learning.

One of the event organisers Sharon Ellery says ‘We are so fortunate in this area to have so many people with such expertise willing to give time to support this work. We are grateful to all the organisations who took part I believe this shows partnership working at its best!’

Participating Organisations included:

  • Locality Team (Children’s Services)
  • Young Carers
  • Hampton Trust (domestic violence)
  • It’s Your Choice (drugs, alcohol)
  • CATCH (Staying safe, Lone-working)
  • CAMHS (mental health)
  • Simon Says (childhood bereavement)
  • Parent Support Advisor (Working with Parents)
  • Police, Police Community Support Officer & Accredited Community Safety Officer (community working)
  • Testwood Sports College (Internet safety with particular focus on social networking)

A special thank you has to go to Applemore College for the use of their conference room.
