Families Matter Corona Newsletter #5 – July/August 2020

Covid 19 update from Families Matter  July 6th 2020

This has been an unprecedented time for us all over the last 3 months. The Government lockdown, announced at the end of March 2020, closed all our groups and meetings, and the church building where we are based was also shut.

However we have managed to keep our important work of helping families in need going by working from home. We have made phone calls and sent emails to most of our clients to see how they are doing, and have supported them in whatever ways we can. We have started a monthly Corona Virus newsletter, which you can see on this website, or please feel free to request a copy if you want to go on our mailing list.

We have also worked in close partnership with the Waterside Food Bank, to help our families who are suffering financially during the lockdown. Please contact us if you need this help. And we have begun our own scheme to deliver care parcels to families and people in need in the area. These consist of food items if needed, plus toys, activities and games suitable for the children to help keep them occupied, or flowers and a card for the bereaved or sick. These items have been kindly donated by our local community. We have received many notes of thanks for these parcels, some of which are listed below:

Hi Julia

Thank you for your email

Me and the children Are all fine thank you.

Thank you so much for the food bank voucher.  It was a massive help. S.

Hey Julia.

Thank you again for thinking of me. It really is very much appreciated.

I find it very difficult accepting from others, sometimes it's a necessity.

I'd be grateful for tinned veg please. Or anything really. Thank you again for your thoughts, help and support. D

Hi Julia

Just wanted to stay Thankyou for the wonderful delivery today. The children were so excited, especially the boys with the radio and science stuff you sent them.

Thankyou again for thinking of us. S

Our AGM which was due to be held on 8th July, has been cancelled for this year. However, we are presenting an Annual Report of our work online on Tuesday 28th July at 2pm. Please contact us for the link if you are interested in watching it.

We aim to begin restarting some of our groups from September 2020 if Government guidelines permit. In the meantime if you need our help, please contact us by phone   on 02380 207623 or  email office.fm.hurc@gmail.com
